I have aptosid running within VirtualBox running on a Ubuntu host on a ThinkPad T400 with a resolution of 1440z900. However, xrandr on tha aptosid guest says:
      Code:

Screen 0: minimum 64 x 64, current 1440 x 1050, maximum 32000 x 32000
VBOX0 connected 1440x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768       60.0 +   60.0
   1600x1200      60.0
   1440x1050      60.0*
   1280x960       60.0
   800x600        60.0
   640x480        60.0

How can I tell xrandr to use a resolution of 1440x900 instead of 1440x1050? Where is the VBOX0 geometry defined (I did not find anything within the VirtualBox manager)?

You are using a conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, what does it contain?

I don't use aptosid inside a VBox but other systems with aptosid being the host. Ususally installing virtualbox guest additions inside the VBox installation solves all resolution problems, they are handled automatically.

Hence my questions: Are virtualbox guest additions installed? Is the module vboxvideo loaded?

With those installed/implemented an Arch Linux guest inside an Aptosid host automatically adjusts resolutions (little window, seamless window, full screen). I don't have a xorg.conf, and it should not be required with the X server aptosid is shipping.

After installing the VirtualBox Guest Additions and discarding the redundant xorg.conf file, everything works as expected, even with two monitors.

That's great news! Enjoy Aptosid!
